Relocating the Power Input
Most synthesizers and drum machines have all of their ports located at the top of each unit. This works well for me because I prefer my gear to be narrowly laid out next to one another. The 64 is not good for this set up due to its power input located on the right side of the keyboard. Therefore, the power input will need to be relocated. I do not recommend performing this mod. Any mistakes will likely cost you your entire 64 system.

I started by desoldering the power connector and noting the pin outs. Power at this portion of the board has yet to be regulated. Tapping power from these pins for use with circuitry would be a mistake. Also, pins six and seven are not to be considered equal, unlike group one-two-three or group four-five.

The power plug only houses pins two, five, six and seven. As you may expect, I only had to worry about rerouting these four lines. Just as the DIN Sync jack pins matched up with the through holes of the original serial I/O port, the power connector jack pins are a match for the through holes of the original audio/video port.

A heavier wire gage is necessary for handling these higher voltages.

This completes the upper ports modifications.

Luckily, the pin arrangement of the Din Sync connector is at 45° while the C64 power connector has a 60° pin arrangement. Therefore, power and sync cables cannot be accidentally swapped.
