Since my cat decided it would be cool to pull on my headset until it snapped off of the hook I kept on, I had to find a way to replace it. I didn't want to have them all taped up, and I could not find an Xbox communicator anywhere. And if I did, I would have to buy both the communicator module and the headset, since my cheep knock-off assembled them together. Time to take things apart and try something new.

I had an old cell phone and matching hands free headset laying around. Since the headset's functions are the same as the Xbox communicator headset (ear peace/microphone), I decided it was worth a shot.

As with any mod… Step one: disassemble.

The cell phone ports are about the same width as the communicator module Hmmm.

I desoldered the connections component from the cell and opened up the hands free connector so I could figure out what pins were what.

Once I had the pin outs, I hard wired everything up to test it out. The ear peace sounded great. However, the mic was rather week, according to the guys I talked to on line. Eh, I don't think I want something stuck in my ear the entire time I play Xbox live, anyway.

Time to try something new.
